Welcome to Helios: New Hire Orientation
A video-based onboarding experience for all new hires at a commercial HVACR provider, one operating company within a decentralized network. In a network like this, there is no single culture to install: every company carries its own history, values, and standards on top of what the enterprise provides. I partnered directly with Helios leadership to design an orientation that reflects their identity, pairing it with enterprise best practices and the technology to execute — hands-on support that builds the relationship as much as the deliverable. The course covers culture, structure, conduct, and pay in the order a new hire actually worries about them: what do we stand for, who has my back, what's expected of me, and how do I get paid.
This sample shows four design decisions:
Every scene pairs video with a visible transcript, so a distributed workforce can learn on a phone in a truck, sound on or off, and accessibility is built in rather than bolted on.
The organization is taught as an inverted pyramid, with frontline employees at the top and every support team underneath, so structure itself delivers the culture message.
Knowledge checks are built from real moments rather than definitions: a missing part on site, a forgotten pair of safety glasses, a 7 a.m. shift you're too sick to make.
And even compliance content asks for judgment, not recall. The Code of Conduct check rewards recognizing that starting a job without safety equipment is work avoidance, not initiative.
